Rebuilding Trust in the Information Infrastructure
America faces a critical failure in our information ecosystem that threatens national security, economic stability, and democratic governance. When emergency responders cannot coordinate because they distrust information sources, when markets become volatile due to information disorder, and when foreign adversaries can manipulate public perception at scale, the problem extends far beyond media. With an estimated 80% of online content now AI-generated and traditional gatekeepers weakened, we lack the systems needed to maintain information integrity at the speed and scale democracy requires.
The Trust in Media cooperative or TIM is working to find solutions to this challenge. We connect the people, organizations, and ideas working to rebuild the public’s relationship with trustworthy information. TIM is laying the groundwork towards building a common information infrastructure, continually scanning the landscape, bringing leaders together, surfacing promising approaches, and coordinating efforts that otherwise remain siloed. TIM serves as a visible center of gravity, where ideas converge, collaborations form, and coordinated action begins.
TIMs role in bridging gaps in the information ecosystems is as:
Gatherer: Mapping who is working on what, across sectors and generations.
Convener: Creating spaces, online and in person, for dialogue and collaboration.
Connector: Linking initiatives, research, and technology that advance information quality.
Catalyst: Identifying gaps and opportunities and helping align the right people and resources to address them.
